Episode 139: Your Hand on My Shoulder Makes the World All Right

A list of happy things to make you feel like today ain't so bad, really. (It's pretty great, actually!)

Not having to be right all the time.

Cracking open pistachio shells and eating the small nuts inside.

Finding yourself less afraid than you were before. Stronger, more resilient.

A two dollar bill, tucked into your wallet.

When someone knows you so well, you can’t get away with hardly anything.

The way it feels like magic to tell a story to a rapt audience.

Making something delicious for a potluck.

Learning new phrases in a new language, understanding the differences and similarities to your own.

Finding a hair tie when you need one.

When it’s finally cold enough at night to cuddle under the covers.

Finding your favorite snack at the store.

Taking out your contacts at the end of the day.

A dozen new flavors of sparkling water, all for you to try.

Getting a new desk chair.

Watching the firemen test all the fire hydrants, big plumes of water shooting out.

Walking carefully to avoid the cracks in the pavement, just for fun.

Pulling on new winter boots over warm thick socks.

Finding a book you loved as a little kid, giving it to someone new to love.

Day dreaming about hot chocolate with piles of whipped cream.

Going for a walk around your own neighborhood, no phone, no nothing -- just you and the trees.

Remembering the time I put my hand on your shoulder, and you slowly reached up and touched the tips of my fingers. I knew everything there was to know about us, in that moment.
