Episode 142: The Wild Joy of a Mariachi Band

Unexpected surprised and unbridled joy, there's many things to love in the day to day.

A wide brimmed hat hiding your face from the sun.

A single light office way up high in a darkened skyscraper.

Sending a package to another country as a surprise.

The endless joy of a big mariachi band interrupting dinner, everyone stops to stare.

Walking on a suspension bridge, wobbly and wild.

A massage so good it you practically float out of the room.

Flying over an icy tundra, pulling your sweater closer, the snow reaching out under you as far as you can see.

Slipping your arms around their waist and pulling them close for a hug.

Rubbing the spot between a dog’s eyes, gently, watching them fall asleep.

When your favorite barista writes your name without you saying it out loud.

Listening to someone practice the Trumpet in another apartment, across the way.

That you can change, that you don’t have to be bound by the past, you can throw away the blueprints and start again.

The crispyness of the autumn leaves underfoot, in every beautiful color you can think of.

Narrowly avoiding disaster.

Going to a two year old’s birthday party, watching how proud their parents are, how filled with joy.

When someone recommends a book you never would have read, and it’s wonderful.

Getting rid of stuff you no longer need.

When you’re in good health, nothing hurts, you can breathe easy.

Decorating for the holidays, bringing out all the things you remember from years past.

When someone says you look familiar, that they must know you.
