Episode 65: There are Many Different Kinds of Love

Love looks like a lot of different things, paying attention, doing what you say you will do, dancing alone in a crowded bar, taking care of someone who’s not well. I hope you can feel the love that surrounds you today and every day.

Love looks like a lot of different things, and it finds us in many different forms. Sometimes we can’t see the love that surrounds us because of how hard we’re looking for one particular kind. Today, I want to see all the love in my life, clearly.

Cheering others on in the ways that matter -- showing up, calling, writing notes.

Finding a solution to a particularly challenging problem.

Listening really carefully, paying attention when someone is talking to you.

Doing what you say you will do, when you say you will do it.

Putting a song you love on the jukebox at one in the morning and dancing by yourself in a crowded bar.

Knowing who you are inside so clearly, that the outside doesn’t matter as much.

Being spontaneous and trying something new, even if it scares you a little.

Dropping someone off at the airport, and picking them back up again at the end of their trip.

When someone appreciates you for something in particular and lets you know what it is.

Putting your phone down at parties, at dinner, being where you are for once.

Doing the chores that need to be done, even the ones that aren’t fun.

Making time for the people in your life that matter to you.

Asking for advice from someone you trust and listening to what they have to say.

Letting go of small things, realizing most of it won’t matter in even a few months.

Taking care of someone who’s not feeling their best, that gift of time, of patience.

Using your skills to make things easier for someone else, taking something off their plate and giving them a break.

Knowing that we are on each other’s team, and your wins are my wins.

And because there is someone who needs to hear this today, please hear me now. I love you, the way you are today, and you are enough, the way you are, today.
